The inspiration for Petplan came from a $5,000 veterinary bill the Ashtons incurred for their cat “Bodey” while they were pursuing their MBAs at University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Winning the Wharton School Business Plan Competition with the idea for Petplan, the Ashtons have built a business that now insures 100,000 dogs and cats across the country.
