What to Get the Graduate

It’s graduation season.

Although a job is number-one on your favorite college graduate’s wish-list, there are other things he may be almost as happy to receive … items to help with the job-search.

1. An introduction to someone who works in the field. The next best thing to a job is a conversation with a person who is already successful in that area. Check your network and find someone willing to give your grad an interview to share insider info, details on the  job market and potentially leads in the field. This is the type of hope- and information – that money can’t buy.

2. Business cards. This is a must-have for any networker – be it a college student, college graduate or someone already working in business. When your graduate meets a potential lead, a card is an essential step in the follow-up process.

3. Work attire. Jeans and t-shirts might be great for class, but don’t work that well in the “real world.” Take your grad shopping for something appropriate for interviews and events. The look of professionalism mixed with the knowledge to back it up will give your graduate an advantage.
